In Case You’re Wondering How Those First 2 Plants of 2024 Are Doing…
This is a follow-up to one of my first videos and the first two plants of 2024. If you’re new here, you’ll quickly come to realize that I’m a Hoya and Philodendron fan. Most of my collection is comprised of these two varieties. I had been eyeing these two plants for a while and waiting for the prices to drop, as they typically do. It was right around Christmas, Gabriella Plants (not sponsored) had a sale going on and I just couldn’t resist. My personal experience with this company has always been fantastic and the plants have always arrived on time and in great condition.
I purchased the Hoya sp. Ha Som Pean. I was intrigued by the flowers I saw online; creamy white with burgundy/pinkish centers. The leaves are medium in size with speckles. Up until now, she seems to enjoy the high humidity of the plant cabinet where she also receives bright light. She’s not a slow grower but I wouldn’t say she’s particularly quick either; I’ve gotten two new leaves since I’ve had her. But if you love Hoyas, you’re in it for the leaves and the potential blooms…not the speed of growth.
The second plant I snagged is a Philodendron Squamiferum. Now this one is a grower, I’m going to have to suck it up real soon and put it on a pole, the plant stake isn’t doing too much for her right now. I feel safe in saying that this would make a great beginner plant. She’s easy-going and very low maintenance. This one lives in the plant room on the very top shelf. She gets medium light and lives with the ambient humidity in the plant room, note, I do run a humidifier but this plant is not next to it. I am very pleased with its progress and so happy that I have one in my possession.
Things to note:
I have not repotted either of these plants
They are watered when the top two inches of medium feels try, sometimes even a little later than that
They are fed with every watering, less than the recommended amount
This progress is specifically in my conditions, yours may vary
I’d love to know if you’ve gotten anything this year; lets start a discussion about your new plant babies and their care. Join me and who knows, you just might see something that YOU may want to add to your collection.
