Meet the Alocasia Family

Crazy Cool Alocasias You NEED in Your Life (Not Your Average Houseplant!). The Alocasia Jungle in my collection is still growing (both in number and size). Which of These Bold Beauties is Your Favorite? Alocasias are gorgeous, dramatic plants that make a statement in any indoor space! Here are the top 10 tips to keep them thriving: Bright, Indirect Light – They love lots of light, but direct sun can burn their leaves! A spot near a north or east window works well. High Humidity – Keep humidity above 60%. Try a humidifier or a pebble tray to keep their leaves happy and hydrated. Well-Draining Soil – Alocasias need soil that holds moisture without getting soggy. A mix of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark is ideal. Consistent Watering – Keep the soil lightly moist, but don’t overwater! Let the top inch dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Warm Temps – They love warmth! Keep them between 65°F–80°F (18°C–27°C) and away from cold drafts. Dormant Period – Alocasias may slow down or lose leaves in winter. Just reduce watering and let them rest until spring. Monthly Fertilizing – Feed them a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season for vibrant leaves. Wipe down leaves or treat with insecticidal soap as needed. Good Airflow – Avoid crowded spots! Alocasias like air circulation to prevent fungal issues. Repot Every 1–2 Years – These plants grow fast! Repotting every year or two helps them stay healthy and gives roots room to grow.
